FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1.    What is your standard material for your components?

We specialize in Stainless Steel and use it almost exclusively. We can, on request, produce any of our products in Carbon Steel on a special order.

2.    What tolerances do you hold in your machined parts?

Our standard tolerance is + or - .005" from manufacture's published specifications. The valve and actuator manufactures sets tolerance standards for all parts of their valves or actuators, and each part of their product can vary within those tolerances, yielding undesirable results in some cases. This is referred to as Cumulative Error.

        Cumulative Error

If, for instance, the valve manufacturer sets a + or - .005" tolerance on their valve stem, with a published nominal dimension of .75" on each flat of a square stem, the actual stem can vary between .755" - .745" and still be "within published tolerances". Since we machine our parts to the manufacturer's published nominal dimensions, it is conceivable that our part could be on the low end of our tolerance and the valve stem be on the high end of the manufacturer's range. Our part would not fit THAT particular valve stem, but every part is within tolerances. This is Cumulative Error and is unavoidable unless we have the physical valve or you physically measure the valve and give us the information. To help you provide us with the necessary measurements, we have included Field Data Information Sheets that will show you what we need to accurately machine your parts so that they will fit the first time.

3.    What makes Machining Solutions kits the superior choice?

All of our couplings are CNC machined from billet 303 stainless steel and feature our fully encapsulated, Shur-Grip valve stem pocket that assures almost zero lash with the valve stem. Our quality control inspects 100% of all couplings. All of our brackets are CNC laser cut from stainless steel plate and accurately press formed. Multiple ISO bolt patterns are included on each bracket to maximize actuator choices. All of our kits and accessories are tested to three times the maximum breakaway specification.

4.    What is Machining Solutions "Standard Lead Time"?

Our Standard Lead Time is two weeks on all non-stock or custom/specialty products.  Large valve (over 24") kits sometimes require additional time, due to special handling and materials procurement.

5.    How do I place an order with Machining Solutions?

Machining Solutions accepts company written Purchase Orders as a binding financial agreement to begin production. Customer orders, with established credit, will be shipped as soon as the order is complete (unless otherwise directed). Orders from C.O.D. customers will be shipped as soon as payment has been received, subject to our product availability and our Standard Lead Time.

6.    How do you handle and bill Special Orders?

Special Orders for stocking customers and those customers who have established a line of credit with Machining Solutions, are handled and billed the same as a stock order.

Special Orders for C.O.D. customers will require a substantial pre-payment before we will accept the Purchase Order. The amount of the upfront payment will depend on the uniqueness of the job. After the job is complete, the balance due will be payable before shipment.

7.    How do I become a Stocking Customer and what is your Stocking Program?

Customers who have established a line of credit with Machining Solutions and order accessories in substantial quantities are eligible for our Stocking Program and are referred to as Stocking Customers.   Stocking Customers are subject to the Minimum Order Quantities listed in the product pages, to receive the reduced pricing.

Larger quantity, recurring orders allow Machining Solutions to fully utilize the primary benefit of CNC machining, repeatability. Once we draw a part, program and set up a machine to run that part, it is just as easy to run 100 pieces as it is to run one. The difference is that the overhead of drawing, programming and set up is spread over 100 parts, instead of just one. This allows us to pass those savings on to the customers who repeat orders in substantial quantities. All pricing in this catalog are LIST.

If your business history reflects areas where it would make sense for you to stock items, you should inquire as to having Machining Solutions customize a Stocking Program tailored to your needs. Just use one of the several means to contact us and we can plan the best solution together.

8.    What are Machining Solutions' valve size capabilities?

We can, and have, machined kits and accessories for all types of valves ranging in size from 1/4" to 60".
